Am I hanging my head in shame? HECK NO! I'm the queen of book sniffing and proud of it!
I'll sniff any book. New. Old. Doesn't matter. I'm not picky! I've been known to stand in the middle of my favorite bookstore, smelling every book I pick up, which takes a while, especially when I'm in the Fantasy/Sci-fi section. Others will usually walk around me in the aisle, staring at me like I have ten heads, but I just keep on sniffing!
I love how each book smells completely different and am totally drawn to the variety of smells from one book to another. It's so enchanting that even though each book is so distinct, there's something about them that as soon as you smell it, it screams BOOK! I'm very much a hands-on reader and smelling the books just solidifies the experience for me. It's as if the scent of a book has magical powers that let me become one with the story inside. I can't be the only one who feels that, right? ... Right? OK, maybe I'm crazy, but that's what this post is all about! Being crazy and loving every minute of it!
I'm such a book smelling freak that my husband got me a perfume that smells like a paperback.
But my favorite (and probably craziest) book sniffing moment was when I received the author copies of my first book, The Lost Heir. I carried in the first box, opened it, pulled out a book, and immediately smelled it. Then, as my husband was carrying in the rest of the boxes, I followed him back and forth yelling, "Smell it! Smell it! You know you want to! Smell it!" He looked at me like I was crazy, which indeed I am. And proud of it!
And let me tell you, taking a great big whiff when I receive the first copies of my books continues to be just as divine today as it was three years ago. The first thing I do when a new book of mine is published is take a copy out of the box and smell it. And yes, I still shove it in my husband's face and make him sniff it too! He still thinks I'm weird, but that's ok! We're all crazy in our own ways!
Are you a fellow book sniffer? What's your favorite book sniffing moment? Do you do anything else that would seem a little crazy? Be proud of it and share it with us! #embraceyourcrazy!
